COMPANY: CKREME

Cheryl

Cheryl was one of the first few vendors who I've met through my first pop - up booth, she was selling handmade cookies and she comes from a bakery experience and eventually started her own adventure, Ckreme. Her cookies deserves Michelin star as I'm very picky with my taste in desserts but her cookies exceeded beyond my expectations. I'm obsessed with her hojicha cookies and they're all made without preservatives or food colouring! Her packaging is also top notch, we look forward to trying more cookies from Ckreme!

Q1. What’s behind the company logo and how did you come up with the name?

I wanted a name that had the same initial as my name, and the word creme (Cream came to mind! I decided on ckreme because of my initials, CK, and I love how it didn't change how the word is pronounced.

Q2. Did you have experience baking previously? Why baking?

Baking has been a hobby of mine since I was 12 - 13 years old! I find baking therapeutic, and the idea of putting ingredients together to get a final product! Although there are times when it fails, I try to learn from it; find out what could have been the issue, and adjust for the next try. I love how there are these challenges I have to face before getting the product that I am satisfied with!

Q3. What was your first bake and who was it for?

I believe my first ever bake was assisting my cousin with brownies. Then I got to make red velvet cupcakes myself for family and friends!

Q4. How did you start getting into selling at pop-ups?

I left my last full-time pastry job because the company's values were different from mine. I believe in quality ingredients, strictly no additional colourings/preservatives, and I want to share that in my products!

Q5. What is the most challenging moment starting your own business and how did you overcome it?

The brand started in December 2020, after the first few months I thought I lacked the knowledge to run the business. So I went out to work for other brands before resuming my brand this year!

Q6. Which factor is the most difficult in managing a business (product, packaging, marketing, customer service) and why?

Marketing is the most challenging part for me. I am still learning as I go, but I am not a social media person so it takes an extra effort to manage that!

Q7. Are there other plans to open a store or workshop in the future?

It has always been my dream to open a cafe. And for workshops if the opportunity arises, then yes! It will be lovely to impart the skills I have learned over the years.

Q8. Will you be expanding your business to other products? and is it possible to personalised or pre-order individually?

Yes, definitely, I am looking into putting out gift sets, so that's something to look out for!

Q9. What are your tagline being an entrepreneur?

It will all come to fruition if you are passionate about what you do!

Q10. What advice would you give to those who are just starting out?

Get all the help and support you have! It's always the most difficult at the beginning.

Q11. How is your experience so far being an entrepreneur?

It's been such a whirlwind, but I have met so many entrepreneurs who are equally aspiring! And whenever someone appreciates what I do, it makes everything worth it!
